GEISBERG BERLIN 2020 — The listed post and telegraph office in Berlin Schöneberg, built in 1925, is converted into a residential building. In combination with additional new building components, a coherent complex has been created, and as an ensemble it fulfills an urban function.
With a view to the whole: the new embraces the old. The new buildings adopt the structural elements of the existing buildings, whose original "grandeur" is carried on. The brick-clad old building with its modern design language and expressionist décor has been retained in its substance, and any necessary upgrades have been carefully implemented. Special attention is given to the façade, the staircases, the entrance area and the former counter hall, which is the heart of the building. Like the two courtyards, it is a place of encounter and exchange for the residents.
