The drawings in the “Geschehnisse in der Welt (Events of the World)” series always begin with neither a preconceived idea nor a plan. The intuitive use of charcoal for the drawing process allows the subconscious to enter a contemplative state that releases fragments from its image reservoir.
Mixed together and emotionally filtered by the drawing process, these fragments unfold in new
and unknown constellations. The events do not portray the real world, but have much in common with it. In the black box of our inner image archive, things that we have experienced, seen in the media, dreamed, read, or heard about accumulate over many years. These are mostly images that touched us emotionally but disappeared into the grey haze of time.
The drawings remain open to interpretation, appealing to the viewer’s emotional world and leaving room for personal interpretation. The drawing process of the series begins with the almost somnambulistic creation of an atmosphere using the nuances of charcoal. This creates a light space that wraps itself like a dress around the objects that are then released from our imagination. The atmosphere, a barely tangible breath, allows us to experience our sensitivities as space and space as sensitivities. It brings the external world a step closer to our innermost reality.
