SCHINKELPLATZ BERLIN 2013 — Following the genius loci, the shape of the new front building towards Werderscher Markt presents itself as an independent volume. Compared to the structurally very controlled façades by Schinkel, the façade of the new building is light and elementary, the rational structures of the walls in line with the typological ordering. The façade skin—a classic limestone-coloured stone plaster—spans the fabricated construction while at the same time emphasizing the wall surface, creating a relief which addresses the spanning of the skin over the entire construction independently and abstractly by highlighting the arched reveals.
