The drawings in the “Geschehnisse der Welt (Events of the World)” series always begin with neither a preconceived idea nor a plan. The intuitive use of charcoal for the drawing process allows the subconscious to enter a contemplative state that releases fragments from its image reservoir.
Mixed together and emotionally filtered by the drawing process, these fragments unfold in new and unknown constellations. The events do not portray the real world, but have much in common with it. In the black box of our inner image archive, things that we have experienced, seen in the media, dreamed, read, or heard about accumulate over many years. These are mostly images that touched us emotionally but disappeared into the grey haze of time. (...)
