OPEN TO ALL // Liechtenstein National Library Competition - 18.07.2022
OPEN TO ALL // Liechtenstein National Library Competition
The National Library will move into what is currently the Postal Services and Administration Building in Vaduz. The building will be completely renovated and converted to meet the needs of the library.
The building designed by O&O Baukunst is simple and clearly defined. The volume is a weightless ark, encased in wood, resting on a stone base that communicates with the different heights of the surrounding topography, connecting levels via stairs. The result is a spacious town square and entrance area for the library that—with a panorama of the Alps and a view of a possible future city park to the south—is a lovely place to linger.
A public place, the library is open and transparent, its new shell of wood and glass creating a view from the inside to the outside that is unrestricted in all directions.
O&O Baukunst is happy to come in at 4th place.
