ALEXANDER TOWER BERLIN // Foundation stone ceremony - 14.09.2021
Governing Mayor of Berlin Michael Müller, Markus Penell, the client MonArch, the project developer, and the general planner were present as the first foundation stone for the Alexander Tower was placed on the narrow corner plot near the Alexa Shopping Centre.
At the site, where a deep excavation pit can now be found, construction of the tallest residential tower in the city has officially begun. The 150-metre-high tower spans 35 above-ground and four underground stories. In addition to 377 apartments, there are areas for trade and commerce, offices and conference rooms, a fitness area with swimming pool, a restaurant, and a sky lounge.
In his speech at the foundation stone ceremony, Michael Müller praised this mix of uses and the inauguration of Alexanderplatz as a residential location. He emphasised the importance of handling Berlin’s city centre with care, and of continuing to develop the city through vertical densification.
